Welcome to The Signing Spot. I'm Shannon known online as the Kickbuttmama!! I'm a homeschooling mom of 2 wonderful boys. I began taking sign language when I first started college in 1994 hoping to become an interpreter. But through the years, I was distracted by science courses and ended up getting degrees in Physics and Geology instead. I was an engineer for a few years after graduating college, but I've always been involved with people as a Health & Wellness expert. I'm currently a personal trainer who works with those with medical considerations.
I've always taught my boys sign language - both ASL and SEE (see 'About Sign' for more deets) and have always loved communicating with those who are hearing impared. Recently I was asked to teach an early signs class for babies, toddlers and children with autism. That's what prompted me to put this site together. There are many sites that have a sign dictionary, but that is a very difficult way to learn a language - and signing is it's own language. You wouldn't expect to learn comprehensive French just be reading a translation dictionary, and that's the same as a signing dictionary. So I've instead put together my lesson plans, some of my signs and some of my favorite links and books for the parents of my students (as the parent is just as much a student in this case).
